ABOUT THE DIRECTORS
Dr. Rosé M. Pérez is a scholar and filmmaker whose research focuses on immigrant acculturation, identity, and loss of homeland. With expertise in the intersection of mental health and cultural displacement, Dr. Pérez has devoted her career to exploring how immigrants navigate the complex emotional and psychological challenges of separation from their homeland. Her groundbreaking work on lifelong loss of homeland employs ambiguous loss theory to understand the experiences of the Cuban diaspora. In Cuba es mi Patria: The Homeland I Keep Inside Cuban, she brings her academic insights to the screen, blending personal narratives with research findings to create a compelling, emotionally resonant documentary. This film shows a nuanced exploration of how Cuban Americans cope with the enduring loss of their homeland and separation from loved ones. 
José Vega Pérez is a seasoned producer and director with over 27 years of experience in advertising and television production. Based in Panama, his work includes both filmmaking and commercial production. In addition to extensive commercial projects, José collaborated with producer, director, and writer Dr. Rosé M. Pérez on the documentary Cuba es mi Patria: The Homeland I Keep Inside. He also directed the documentary Panamá, Naturaleza Fascinante, in partnership with Panamanian scientists and researchers from the University of Frankfurt and the Senckenberg Institute of Herpetology. His technical expertise includes editing on Avid Symphony and Media Composer and animation with After Effects. José is a leading figure in Panama’s media and production industries with wide-ranging content creation, field production, and post-production abilities.
